Longtime Partner John Valeriote Retires After 50 Years Of Practising Law

We wish to announce the retirement of John Valeriote from the practice of law. His retirement became effective December 31, 2018.

John was called to the bar in 1968 after obtaining his Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.

Soon thereafter, John returned to Guelph and over the years practiced with Aldo Braida, and then founded Valeriote & Valeriote with Frank Valeriote. After many years, in 1999, Valeriote & Valeriote merged with Smith, Smith, to become SmithValeriote Law Firm. John was a founding partner of SmithValeriote Law Firm and continued his practice in the areas of planning & municipal law, corporate commercial law, real estate law and wills & estates. John became one of the leading lawyers in our community and in his areas of practice during the course of his career.

John and his wife Sherron have three children and six grandchildren. He enjoys woodworking, vehicle restoration, gardening and all things mechanical, as well as travelling. He is an avid reader of historical, biographical and architectural literature and has a special interest in all things relating to Guelph’s history and character.

John has left our firm in a position of strength to carry on his legacy. With SV Law now having more than 30 lawyers, his clients will be served with the same standards of excellence as during his tenure.

Congratulations on your retirement John, and thank you!
