James Pietrangelo (Jim) is a partner at SV Law specializing in family law, with 20 years of experience. Jim is a Family Law Mediator. His 20 years of experience of attending all levels of court in the Province of Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal enables Jim to bring a practical, efficient and legally based foundation to his mediation practice. Jim is certified as a Collaborative Family Law Lawyer, with experience in all other alternative disputes processes. Jim also has broad experience with step-parent adoptions and is a Children’s Lawyer.
Jim’s client’s appreciate his down to earth and practical advice that is focused on resolution.
Jim’s civil litigation practice includes contractual disputes and assisting creditors collect unpaid debts. Jim acts for the Ministry of the Attorney General with respect to Canada Student Loan claims.
Jim holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Minor in Political Science from the University of Waterloo and an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the bar in Ontario in 2002 and has been with SV Law since 2001. He has been a partner at SV Law since 2010.
Jim is active in the community. He is currently the President of the Wellington Law Association and on the Board of Directors for the Guelph Humane Society. He was formerly on the Board of Directors for Stonehenge Therapeutic Community, Groves Hospital Foundation, and the Edward Johnson Music Foundation.
Jim and his wife have two wonderful children and three beautiful grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling with his wife and has especially enjoyed trips to Italy and New York City. Jim loves music. He regularly attends indie rock concerts in small club venues, enjoys listening to his record collection and making noise with his drum kit in his garage. Jim is also a fan of Formula 1 Car Racing as well as being an avid reader and collector of comic books. Jim and his wife foster rescued dogs. What started out with their initial foster, “Marley” (who they will never forget and who remains in their hearts), is now an lively household consisting of three dogs, namely Stella, Spencer and Harper.
