About the Opportunity:

As the successful candidate you will have a Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma or equivalent and 2 – 3 years experience in a litigation role.  This experience should include the drafting of litigation documents (including applications, claims, defence, affidavits, affidavits of documents, and orders from endorsements, etc.), use of effective communication skills with clients, opposing counsel and the Court, scheduling within lawyer’s calendars, liaison with clients and opposing counsel, and performing various other clerk and assistant related tasks.

As the successful candidate you will have general knowledge in family law gained through a related post-secondary education program such as a Legal Administration or Law Clerk Program, or related work experience, and have 1 - 3 years experience in a similar role.    Your primary responsibilities will be providing administrative support with drafting standard letters and template documents, preparation of pre-bills, preparing court documents, including compiling PDF Briefs using Adobe Pro for electronic filing with the Court, preparation of financial statements, preparation of orders from endorsements, scheduling within Lawyer’s calendars, liaison with clients and opposing counsel, and various other administrative tasks.

HUMAN RESOURCES BUSINESS PARTNER - GENERALIST 

SV Law has an exciting opportunity for a HRBP to support our Guelph and Elora offices. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, and as part of the Human Resources Team, the HRBP is responsible for, but not limited to, recruiting, engagement and retention, succession planning, performance, compensation and benefits, health and safety, employee policies and procedures, and employee relations.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a first point of contact providing guidance and assisting with resolution for management and staff on a variety of HR matters related to employee relations, conflict resolution, communication, progressive discipline, policy interpretation, and attendance management.
  • Manage recruitment services including succession plans and provide internal and external candidates with a positive and professional recruitment experience.
  • Conducts terminations and exit interviews
  • Makes recommendations and contributes to employee engagement initiatives and wellness program with the HRBP (Training, Development & Culture)
  • Provide guidance and support for the review, development and implementation of HR programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with existing Firm policies and applicable legislation
  • Prepare reports on various HR metrics
  • Performance Management Program (development of new system, and continuous management of same)
  • Participate in performance reviews and wage and salary administration of employees.
  • Compensation Management - including pay structure and market reviews to ensure industry competitiveness
  • Manages the administration of the Employee RSP/DPSP program.
  • Manage and work closely with the Office Services Coordinator in the administration, maintenance, and annual review of all employee benefits programs.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Back up for payroll using ADP

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of Human Resources generalist experience
  • College or University Degree
  • CHRP designation
  • Exposure to a professional services environment would be an asset.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to work with deadlines.
  • Exceptional client service orientation with strong judgement and exceptional time management, organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and focused listening skills.
  • Strong drive for results, sense of urgency, as well as flexibility.
  • High level of discretion, diplomacy, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now will be preferred.

*This role is a hybrid of remote and in-office working arrangements.

Your primary responsibility will be to handle all aspects of builder new home real estate transactions and subdivision lot sales, which includes preparing legal documents for purchase and sale, and mortgage transactions, drafting agreements, ordering title insurance policies, communicating effectively with lawyers, clients, banks, and mortgage brokers, and dealing with post closing matters.  Experience with MS Office, Teraview and Conveyancer are a must and knowledge of PC Law, Worldox, and DocuSign will be considered an asset.

Condominium Liens Law Clerk/Assistant

About the Opportunity:

As the successful candidate you will have a minimum of 2 years experience in a lien or real estate clerk role.  A Law Clerk or Legal Assistant Diploma would be considered an asset.  Your primary responsibility will be to handle all aspects of a Condominium lien file.  Your role will include preparing and issuing Notice of Liens, registering Condominium Liens, preparing and issuing any Notice of Sale Under Lien required, registering Discharge of Liens, addressing calls from debtors, lenders/mortgagees and solicitors and reporting.  The use of Firm created lien software LeinRight, will be required.  Microsoft Word, Outlook and Teraview will be used on a daily basis to complete tasks.  Knowledge of the Condominium Act, experience with the lien process and/or experience with preparing and registering various documentation within Teraview are considered an asset.  Experience with Conveyancer will provide a strong foundation for use of LienRight.  Full in-house training will be provided.
