Randy's practice includes family law, mediation, wills & estates and residential real estate. He is currently on the executive committee for the firm.
Randy has extensive experience in family law issues ranging from complex property disputes, custody and access of children, child support, spousal support, and equalization of property. Randy's goal in family law matters is to take all reasonable steps to resolve matters in order to allow former partners to move ahead with their independent lives. He believes that Mediation or Mediation/Arbitration is an excellent way to achieve resolution. However, when necessary, Randy has significant court experience including conducting trials in the Superior Court of Justice and appeals in the Ontario Court of Appeal.
In family law matters, Randy is also pleased to have expanded his practice to include Family Mediation. Mediation is voluntary process wherein a neutral third party facilitates the negotiation of a mutually acceptable agreement. The process can take place either with legal counsel present or with the parties alone. Mediation is often a more efficient process leaving with the participants feeling that their needs are more fully met. It assists the parties in dealing with all issues but may be particularly helpful when there are children and the parties will need to continue to co-parent or if there is a family business.
With respect to wills and estates, Randy has drafted numerous Wills and Powers of Attorney, and has experience dealing with property, guardianship, trusts including Henson Trusts and estate administration.
Randy has conducted numerous real estate transactions involving purchases and sales of single family dwellings, condominiums, rural properties, and cottages.
Randy has always enjoyed giving back to the community. He is presently Vice Chair of Chalmers Community Services Centre (CCSC), which operates food banks in downtown Guelph and in the west end of Guelph. He recently started a Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program in Guelph. Randy is a former Director of the Guelph General Hospital Foundation. He is a former chair of Council at Dublin Street United Church. Randy was a Director and President of the Wellington Law Association. Randy was formerly very active in the Rotary Club of Guelph Wellington, including terms as Director and President. In May 2011 he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship for contributions to the club and community at large. Randy enjoys travelling, gourmet cooking, skiing, golfing badly and being active with his wife and two daughters.
